How to Change a Computer’s Name (Windows 7 – Windows 10)
Having multiple computers with the same name on a network can be very problematic.
NOTE: If the main computer’s/server’s name is changed, it will be necessary to remap all the shares for every year on all of the workstations; rather, try changing a workstation’s name before changing the server’s name.
- Open Windows Explorer by either clicking on the folder icon on the taskbar.
- Right click “This PC or Computer,” then select Properties.
- Under the Computer Name, Domain and workgroup settings heading, select Change Settings.

- Click on Change.

- Enter new computer name and click OK.

- Reboot the computer when prompted. Rebooting the computer is required for this change to take effect.
